Collective

A collective that responds even when its founders are on assignment

It’s the question we get asked most, especially by IT consultancies and business managers: “what if you’re all on assignment the day I need you?” The answer lies in how the collective is built: a core team of five leads, surrounded by a community of expert freelancers we know, keep track of and bring together regularly.

A solo freelancer has a simple limit: when they’re booked, they’re booked. A collective that’s just a list of names has the same limit, only worse, because it promises availability it doesn’t control. Kapti was designed to avoid both pitfalls.

A core team that decides, a community that delivers

The core team is made up of five leads: two product designers, a full-stack developer, a front-end tech lead and a product strategist. They are the ones who handle requests, scope engagements and remain the client’s single point of contact.

Around them is a community of more than 30 expert freelancers: design, development, AI, data, accessibility. They didn’t come through a job ad: each one was recruited, often after working with one of us on an engagement, a hackathon or a workshop.

Availability, tracked continuously

What makes the difference isn’t the number of profiles, it’s knowing who is available, when, and for what. We track the community’s availability as it evolves: expected end of assignment, possible part-time, the projects people want. When a request comes in, we know within a few hours who can take it on, instead of starting a search from scratch.

That’s what lets us keep our commitment to a team proposal within 48 hours, even when the five leads are themselves on long engagements, as was the case between late 2024 and early 2026.

The right person at the right time

Knowing people lets us staff precisely. We know who excels at field research and who prefers design systems, who has already worked in banking or healthcare, who is comfortable in English with an international client. A Kapti squad is put together for a specific engagement, not filled with whoever is left.

And a lead from the core team always remains accountable for the engagement, even when they don’t spend every day on it: they scope it at the start, review deliverables and stay reachable by the client.

Workshops to stay a team

A network that never meets falls apart. So we regularly hold workshops all together: working sessions on a topic (AI in interfaces, accessibility, design systems), lessons learned from engagements, and longer get-togethers such as KaptiEvent or our hackathon.

These moments serve three purposes: sharing what we learn on engagements, getting people who will one day be in the same squad to work together, and maintaining a shared way of working, so the client gets the same standards whatever the team.

What it means for you

  • A response within 48 hours, with named, available profiles, not an anonymous talent pool.
