Internal project Retail

A store app that prioritizes morning tasks, and a design system for team tools

Marché Linéa project screens

Internal project, carried out by collective members to explore the retail sector. This is not a client engagement: “Marché Linéa” is a demo brand.

Context

The need we imagined, based on what we hear in the sector:

Every morning, our department managers discover stockouts at the same time as customers. Our four internal apps (orders, inventory, labels, scheduling) each have their own buttons, colors and bugs.

Typical client: A neighborhood store chain with hundreds of locations, where every minute before opening counts.

The challenge

  1. 1

    Built for the shop floor

Gloves, movement, stockroom lighting, weak signal: large buttons, high contrast, offline mode.

  2. 2

    Prioritize, don’t dictate

The AI suggests a task order with its reasoning. The department manager is free to rearrange it.

  3. 3

    One system for four tools

Shared components to ship faster and train less.

The engagement we would run

Typical 9-week engagement

Here’s how we would run this engagement for a real client. The screens and demo below were produced during the internal project.

  1. 1

    Research · Weeks 1 and 2

Observation of 5 stores at opening, 14 interviews with department managers, store managers and support teams.

  2. 2

    Design system · Weeks 3 to 6

Audit of the 4 apps, tokens, 40 components, high-contrast outdoor mode, in Figma and React Native.

  3. 3

Design and development · Weeks 4 and 5

AI-prioritized task list with explanations, stockout prediction based on sales and deliveries.

  4. 4

    Adoption · Weeks 7 to 9

Documentation, governance, migration of one screen per app with each team.

The Linéa design system. Tokens, buttons, task cards and stock indicators, shared across all 4 apps.

Interactive demo

You’re a department manager, it’s 7 a.m.

The app ranks the morning tasks based on the day’s context and explains why.

Your turn

  1. 1Check or uncheck today’s context
  2. 2The task order changes
  3. 3Read the reason behind each priority

Reorder the morning tasks

Change the context, and the order and reasons update. The department manager stays in control.
